Should You Be Aflutter About Twitter?
August 11, 2009
Personally, I’m tired of hearing about it. What was once one of those words that’s just kind of fun to say, like “spelunking” or “canoodle”, just doesn’t do it for me anymore. Unfortunately, we are not here for my entertainment.
The Twitter revolution (or should I say evolution) is here, whether we like it or not. I mean, it’s pretty undeniable when you can potentially reach millions of people in an instant. It has had an enormous impact on businesses worldwide. (Cue fireworks and confetti!)
There are certain markets that tweeting is a no-brainer for (entertainment, restaurants, retail, travel) markets that are continually changing their offerings or services. These types of businesses will likely reap the most in terms of immediate increased numbers. And with good reason. It’s FREE. It’s quick. It’s simple. It has exceptional breadth.
Does this mean you should run out and hire an armada of thumb-wielding geniuses? Not exactly. Let’s say you own a steel manufacturing company or an at-home nursing service. If you choose to set up a Twitter account for the purposes of having one and being “in the know”, go right ahead. Just don’t necessarily expect to have thousands of followers or see your bottom line shoot through the roof.
Do what makes sense for your business. Consider your clients’ wants and needs. It is more important to have a purposeful and effective website than to jump on a technology trend just for the sake of doing it. So don’t feel intimidated or inadequate if you think Twittering sounds like a bunch of “Jabberwocky”.
However, just because you may not be actively tweeting, doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from Twitter. You can also go to http://search.twitter.com, type in words just as you would on a regular search engine, and your results will show all tweets with those exact words. There you have it, yet another useful internet resource.
Social Media is just one of many ways to drive traffic to your website and business, and Parscale Media has the expertise to help you implement a successful web marketing plan that will do just that.
