Are You Delusional?
July 20, 2009
In our society we have our choice of things that could make us delusional. (At the moment for me, it’s the sound of planes flying over our building and the fact that the A/C isn’t working and it’s 99 degrees in my office. Awesome.) But I am really referring to websites. Why? Because every business is selling something. I would like to share some common misconceptions regarding websites.
Price. Unless you are Bill Gates or Oprah price always matters. There are two concerns here. One is many smaller businesses think they won’t be able to afford a website. Or they assume the only thing they can afford is the work of their next door neighbors’ teenage son. (Not to imply there aren’t capable young web designers/developers out there, but you get the point.) The second is the other extreme. Many people assume the old adage, “you get what you pay for”. This is not always the case. Believe it or not there are people out there, let’s say Parscale Media, that provide cutting edge, comprehensive websites for a very humble price. The key is to do your research. Talk to different firms, get references, look at their work, schedule a meeting and see if you like the people. Don’t assume you can’t afford it OR it’s too good to be true. Your business could depend on it. Schedule a consultation with Parscale Media here.
Purpose. There was a time when you could register a domain name, throw up an HTML page and call it a day. Those days have passed. With an estimated 180 million websites indexed, it’s a slight understatement to say your website can get lost if it does not have a purpose. Nowadays a website needs to be attractive, easily navigated, and interesting. You have to really spend some time thinking about how to make your website standout, which is not always an easy task. Look at your competitors’ websites, jot down or save other sites you like, read. It is a good idea to choose a firm, let’s say Parscale Media, that takes a consultative approach to websites. Make sure all your ideas and key business goals are implemented with a call-to-action, while also integrating optimized content and exceptional design. Remember, just because you have a website doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best it can be. Schedule a consultation with Parscale Media here.
Maintenance. Websites need love too. If you have a website currently, when was the last time you adjusted the content? New images? Blog? Social Media? If you don’t have these items included in your website you might want to consider it. Many websites don’t have the capability of adding these types of things without contacting the person they paid to build their website. Depending on how old the website is, it might not even be a possibility unless it is rebuilt. Many current websites are much more efficient and even self-sufficient. Some firms, let’s say Parscale Media, utilize a content management system (CMS) which allows the business owner to cut costs by being able to maintain the website on their own. This also lends the opportunity to have a more interesting and successful website because it can be updated more frequently and the business owner is more directly involved. Let’s leave being delusional to reality T.V. stars, and not your business. Parscale Media is here to help you fully understand all things related to web marketing.
